SOiL Rosehip oil, also known as rosehip seed oil, is cold-pressed and unrefined from the red fruit and seeds of the wild rose bush, indigenous to the Drakensburg Highlands in South Africa.
Like Castor Oil, Rosehip oil contains linoleic acid, which is a fatty acid Vitamin F, a vitamin that our bodies can’t produce internally, but is essential.
Besides Vitamin F, which helps skin retain moisture, rosehip oil also contains other beneficial nutrients like Vitamin A, which promotes cell regeneration, exfoliates, and reveals new skin, Vitamin C, which is the sun damage protector and reduces melanin production, which in turn reduces dark spots… and then Vitamin E, which further assists with scar reduction.
Vitamins F,A,C,E… good for your face? Need we say more…
Rejuvenation & Repair
Fatty acids in Rosehip oil stimulate collagen production which improves skin elasticity and smooths out fine lines and wrinkles. The regenerative properties of linoleic acid promote skin cell production which reduces the appearance of scars, while antioxidants protect cells against sun damage.
Moisturizing Effects
Rosehip oil is an excellent choice as a moisturizer for dry skin as its high fatty acid content helps skin cells to retain their moisture and prevents dehydration, leaving your skin with more suppleness and elasticity. A little goes a long way, 2-4 drops are plenty.
Skin Brightening
With regular use of Rosehip oil, you can brighten your skin and reduce the appearance of pigmentation due to the vitamin C content, while rosehip oil is more hydrating than just using vitamin C.

Another essential oil with skin brightening properties is Sandalwood oil.
Acne Prone Skin
Vitamin A and various other antioxidants in rosehip oil help reduce inflammation, regulate sebum production which prevents clogged pores and acne breakouts. If you are afraid of using oil on your oily or acne prone skin, don’t be, Rosehip oil is a light weight, non-comedogenic oil, which means it’s not likely to clog pores, and in fact minimizes clogged pores. Acne scars can also be reduced with Rosehip oil’s regenerative properties.
How to Make a Soothing Acne Reducing Blend
Mix 1:1 ratio of Rosehip & Jojoba Carrier Oil, 3 drops each of Frankincense, Lavender & Tea Tree Essential Oils.
Skin sensitivity & Allergies
Before trying any “recipes” you find on the internet, Facebook, or Instagram, do a patch test on your skin to test for allergic reactions. Even though these oils are gentle, organic, and generally have a low side effect risk, they could still have side effects on more sensitive skin types. Do not use it in the daytime, especially if you are going out in the sun, instead use it before bedtime.
Shelf Life
Rosehip oil can become tainted from exposure to air and heat. It will lose its potency and develop a bad smell. For this reason, it is best to keep it in smaller amber glass bottles in a cool dark place and always check expiry dates.
